2009 Wilmslow CC Golf Day
Undetered by freezing rain and a cold northerly the Hart family (with Max Harvey) took the Team prize. It didn't stop there. Grandad Hart took the individual prize, and grandson Rob Hart nearest the pin. Big Frank 'Emma's' Dad won the longest drive. Thanks to the Farmers Arms for a great hot pot.
Club AGM
Normally a straightforward, quietly efficient and seamless affair this years AGM was rocked by the retirement of John Holt from his position of President.
A member of the club since its inception in 1946, John has worked tirelessly in everyone of those intervening years. An ever present at almost every match junior or senior in recent years, words cannot express the debt we owe.
Gerald Tatlock was elected as the new President, Mike Harding Chair and Mark Green First Team Captain. The club was pleased to elect some 'Colt' members onto the committee reflecting the significant youth element within the club. The Club Dinner and Awards Evening Fri 28th November .
Over 90 people enjoyed this annual event, which was a great success. Thanks once again to everyone who attended, the club is fortunate indeed to have such generous and supportive friends. Photos will shortly be posted on the photo page along with the 2009 averages. Firsts beat League Champions Lindow to ease relegation worries
A fine 60 from Stevie Fulker and 3 wickets for Jay Patel along with some fine fielding saw Wilmslow pick up an unlikely 25 points against this seasons top team. The battling Squirrels posted an average 150 and at 60 for 1 in reply Lindow were hot favourites. Enter Tom Rowe and Jay Patel and the game turned, the champions being dismissed for 124.
3rd Team take 20:20 Cup
In a remarkable finale to the season, an Adam Dixon inspired 3rd team took the GMACL 20:20 plate final by overcoming league leaders and hot favourites, the Salford Hawks.
Having won the toss and posted a monster 170 score, Hawks were confident of victory on a slow and damp Rectory outfield. Skipper Hart selected Dixon to open the batting knowing he would take the aerial route. It was an inspired move and 70 runs later the game was won with an over to spare.
Under 13's suffer end of season heartache.
Whilst it is likely that neither team had picked up a bat since the end of July it was Georgians, who adapted to the conditions best and deservedly won the High Peak League's Under 13's Championship Final. Having been asked to bat, Wilmslow's timing was all awry. They spooned a succession of catches to the infield and were all out for 50. Georgians knew they were in a game however and lost 6 wickets themselves in chasing down the total.
Season's update
What with 1st Team skipper Wildsmith out injured (probably for the season) and his opening partner Bainbridge breaking limbs every six weeks (having just recovered from the last) it's not been an easy start for the Squirrels.
The boys have done well and, although there is still a threat of relegation, there have been some highly notable performances. Plucked from the obscurity of second team cricket, club stalwart Green took on the mantle of stand-in skipper. It has been an inspired move. He has orchestrated and witnessed two 'five fors' by Tom Rowe and a double from brother Toby (5 for and 50). Still U17, these guys along with school mates Herriott, Patel, Harvey and Lewis have all, through personal performances, been instrumental in winning games. The only issue Green has had, is finding enough transport for away fixtures. Dillon, Fulker and the Doctor have provided the experience and the transport.
The club has welcomed some new players; Jaan has opened the batting on the Firsts with a flourish and some success (two 40's and a 70), we are hoping that Hermant (80 in around 50 balls vs Alderley Park 2nds) will join him soon, once he has got used to a hard ball!
The seconds continue to befuddle and confound, one minute taking the top teams to near victory and then capitulating to the bottom clubs. Getting 26 in 12 balls is not a 'well batted' when you are all out for a 100 off 20 overs. Despite this, Pickup is probably the best strike bowler in the division and Dixon the most destructive batsman. Given some runs to defend, the spin twins of Hamilton and Harding will do damage. Lack of runs and catches has been the issue all season, but under 15's Hart and Fitzpatrick are starting to consistently perform in both these areas. At 13 and a regular all season E Rowe will be better than his older brothers. A week last Saturday Alderley Park were beaten by 9 wickets.
The 3rd Team having reached the final of the GMACL 20:20 Plate, are now making a late surge for the 3rd division title. Ably led by Pat Hart this a rich source of developing talent. This is the route for junior cricketers into the senior teams.

The juniors are not disappointing. The most successful team at the club this year are the U13A. They started with a tournament win at the Pott Shrigley Sixes (see photos), and followed this by winning the league. After wins against new Mills and Prestbury they are in the final of the Championship Playoffs to be played in September. The U13B get the vote for endurance, largely made up of U12's and new cricketers they have been agonisingly close to victory on a number of occasions. Learning to lose and then working hard to get better is a great attitude and exemplified by the U11's. Edged out of the first round of the Prestbury sixes, the youngest Squirrels regrouped and won the plate. This is the most talked about win amongst the junior coaches, a fabulous effort. It seems to have rained on each Friday through June and July, consequently the U15's season has been a bit protracted. In between showers they lost just once and beat Macc, Cheadle Hulme and Prestbury. A big thanks to Andy, Lynne, Paula, Pat, Bob and Carole who as well as manage and coach do the scoring, umpiring and organise the games. Thanks too, to all the parents for their support.
Golf Result
Matt Jansen took the individual prize in The Inaugural Wilmslow CC Golf Classic with an outstanding stableford score of 44 points. Steve Fulker, Andy Warner, Mike Lees and Frank took the team prize and take home the Gilberts Trophy.
Lost, believed stolen many years ago, Wilmslow CC took the prestiguos Gilberts Trophy circa 1989 when they won a 5 'A' Side tournament. Whilst badly in need of a polish and having lost its base, this will sit proudly on Frank's mantelpiece.
Annual Awards Dinner 2008
Held on 28th November at the Pinewood Hotel Handforth, eighty five guests enjoyed the mix of good food, various entertainments and fundraising events.
Highlights of the evening included Mark Greens 'Play Your Cards Right' won by first team skipper Sam Wildsmith and a special presentation to club stalwart Terry Green. Terry who retired as Club Chairman in February was presented with a book entitled 'In Like Tigers' a pictorial history of Wilmslow CC.
